Derthona

Derthona

  • Winery: Cantina di Tortona
  • Alcoholic Percentage: 14.5%
  • Description: Timorasso, cultivated in Alessandria since the 14th century, was once the most common grape in Tortona but was nearly lost after phylloxera. Due to its delicate nature, it was replaced by hardier reds like Barbera and Croatina. Revived in the 1980s, it is now produced in the valleys of southern Piedmont. With a deep straw-yellow color, it has aromas of ripe apricot, thyme, and flint. On the palate, it is rich yet fresh, with vibrant acidity and a long, savory finish.
  • Grape: Timorasso 100%
  • Pairings: Seafood appetizers and first courses.
